This summer intern position will be part of the Bioinformatics team. They will be trained in the development of improved methods, analysis, pipelines, and algorithms of next-generation sequencing data, for cancer detection, conformant to CLIA guidelines. They will enjoy life in the San Francisco Bay Area, activities with other summer interns, and start-up company culture. 
You will:
  • Work on complex problems in which analysis of data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors.
  • Collaborate with software engineering, biostatistics and bioinformatics teams.
  • Exercise judgment in defining methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
  • Translate findings into recommendations for the development of new products. 
  • Exact responsibilities will be decided in collaboration with intern mentor(s). The following are examples of possible areas of focus: Apply machine learning methods to modeling and interpretation of biological dataIdentify and validate genomic features driving tumor developmentDevelop and implement new algorithms, or implement algorithms from the literature. 
  • Desired Background:
  • Bachelors, Masters or Ph.D. students in Bioinformatics or related fields.
  • Previous life science research experience 
  • Experience with designing and developing complex bioinformatics next-generation sequencing data analysis solutions. 
  • Strong command of statistics as applied to the analysis of NGS data and analytical study design.
  • Demonstrated expertise in at least one programming language (Java/C++, Go, Python (numpy, etc), R,), proficiency in Linux environment, knowledge of cloud technologies (such as AWS), experience with source control practices and tools (Perforce, Git, Arcanist, etc.)
