About the role
As the Lead Back-end Engineer, you will be responsible for the architecture, development and documentation of Q-CTRL’s APIs and associated microservices and client libraries.

You will be leading a team of Software Engineers towards efficiency and its ability to grow scalable software. This role is crucial in maintaining Q-CTRL’s reputation in the industry as a quality product.

You will be mainly responsible for the architecture and consulting on new product features, be the final stamp of approval for software quality assurance , mentoring and managing the Back-end Engineering team as well as product features hands-on development.
What you'll do:
  • Architecting  building and documenting the Q-CTRL API, Q-CTRL Worker and Q-CTRL API Client Libraries
  • Deciding HOW features are built: decide on the best tech stack for Q-CTRL’s solutions and it’s approach
  • Deciding WHO will build features: know your team’s strengths/weaknesses and distribute work accordingly.
  • Review all back-end code via pull requests
  • Establishing and maintaining efficient team processes:  showing increased velocity and reducing technical debt
  • Defining , documenting, advocating and enforcing best-practice architectural and development standards within the Back-end Engineering team
  • Following Scrum methodology and Gitflow processes - and be an advocate for them
  • Consulting with the Product team, advising for a product strategy perspective and help deciding what to build. 
  • Communicating with the DevOps team on the required hardware to support upcoming projects/usage
  • Consulting with the Quantum Product Engineering team to identify requirements for each new feature
  • Communicating with the Front-end Engineering team on new API capabilities
  • Reporting back to the Head of Platform Engineering on technical debt and concerns / other technological advancement
  • We'd love to hear from you if...
  • You have a Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent practical experience
  • You have at least 8 years of experience in Web Development
  • You can code in Python, using Django or Flask as a framework - bonus points if you are familiar with Celery
  • You are an expert at designing and building RESTful APIs
  • You are familiar with the JSON:API specification
  • You are familiar with PostgresSQL, GCP and Redis
  • You have successfully mentored, coached and led a team of developers before
  • You are an advocate of the GitFlow Process and Scrum You can communicate technical ideas clearly across multiple teams
  • You care about how your attitude affects those around you. You are humble enough to be able to play by someone else’s rules when that’s the best thing to do. You aren’t reluctant to embrace different frameworks, technologies and ideas put forward by others.
