Engineering Tech Lead

Toronto, Ontario Engineering - Reagent Platform Full-time

We are currently seeking an Engineering Tech Lead to join our growing Search Platform Team. As a Tech Lead, you will work on BenchSci's main search product that helps scientists to find biological reagents for their experiments. In this role, you will mentor and teach more junior full stack engineers, lead complex projects, and actively contribute to BenchSci's platform front-end and back-end initiatives.
What you'll do:
  • Lead weekly sprints by planning and collaborating to maximize your team’s productivity
  • Ensure that your team is always working on the highest priority work and is aware of the priority
  • Have the confidence that when your team releases an update, the platform won’t break
  • Collaborate with life scientists and UI designers to implement user facing features
  • Design and architect testable, scalable solutions to complex problems, using the latest frameworks and tools
  • Work on client facing projects involving some of the largest Pharmaceutical companies in the world
  • Employ best practices in utilizing a broad platform of technologies within a cloud based microservices environment
  • Collaborate closely with other engineers to solve interesting and challenging data problems
  • Who we’re looking for:
  • 7+ years working as a professional developer
  • Someone who consistently completes all the OKRs of their team
  • Experience building web applications in a very fast-paced environment
  • Experience with SQL
  • Experience with cloud reference architectures and developing specialized stacks on cloud services
  • Someone who doesn’t settle for good and strives for greatness. 
  • You have strong cross-team communication and collaboration skills
  • A team player who strives to see teammates succeed together
  • Bonus points for:
  • Experience with JavaScript and React
  • Background in Life Science
  • Experience with Elasticsearch
  • Experience with Python
  • Experience with microservice architecture patterns
